On the face of it, that's a good idea (rule of law etc) but think about what would have happened if that could have been acheived. He's been captured, put on trial and imprisoned for life.........his buddies then set about periodically capturing westerners as hostages to get him released, committing attrocities in retaliation for his imprisonment. Our intention would be that we are a democracy that believes in the rule of law and are prepared to stick by it..and it wouldn't ever matter to this group because they use any excuse to justify their actions without any rule of law.
