There has been numerous articles on this, just google it. Malone wants the deal, as does the Vodafone execs, but they don't agree on how to combine the two very different companies. It ain't over.

The two are not mutually exclusive. Another reason for Liberty and Vodafone to combine would be to bring the two former C&W companies back under the same roof.

All media and telecoms companies need content and the means to distribute it. Malone has made quite clear he is building a global media player which can take on the likes of Disney/Time Warner/Comcast/AT&T etc, either as a direct competitor to the big media giants, or to get his company to a scale that it becomes attractive for a buyer.

It will happen because there is still massive consolidation to happen in the media/telecoms world where content providers are teaming up with network providers to safeguard carriage of their own programming and the two companies are a good fit, except for the differences the way the companies are run, as discussed earlier.

No, neither do I.

I don't see TalkTalk surviving in the long term. Not because of the recent scandal, but simply because they will get squeezed out of the market.

TalkTalk do not own their own programming and they do not own the means to distribute it.

There are 3 main players here: BT, Sky and VM. All three of these companies will/or already do, own their own content, have a cable network to distribute the content and have a mobile network. Perhaps there may be a fourth player, it all depends on who buys/merges what. But Talktalk will get bought out at some point.
