Both VM and Sky already allow streaming of live channels with Sky also allowing On Demand and download functionality on mobiles and tablets this will expand to recordings with a move to the cloud.

I agree with your point about a wider support network but remember Sky already allows the same functionality on PlayStation and Xbox if you have either Sky Go Extra or Sky Multiroom so it's not too much of a stretch to imagine that cloud recordings could be viewed on 3rd party devices going forward. As always the challenge is getting content holders on board with this.
