If you're a Virgin Mobile customer the authentication is via your SIM, so only the device that you've got your SIM in and can access the app (Android and iOS at launch) will work on Virgin Media WiFi.

19. Existing Virgin Media broadband customers who have not opted out of the Virgin Media WiFi service and all Virgin Mobile customers will be able to access the services by configuring their device using their existing Virgin Media password to sign in to access the services. Mobile users can access the service by way of the Virgin Media WiFi application. This will use details from the Mobile SIM card to access to service.
