ITV and Channel 5 (Viacom) certainly have the money but the economics of sport generally don't work on broadcasters having the money alone.
Advertising + pay tv fees on a pay TV channel exceed advertising income on a FTA channel by a long way. So sport is generally worth more to a pay TV channel than to a FTA advertising-funded one.
So it's about the business case, not the bank balances.
But would be great if Channel 5 gave it a go!
