tbh unless you are using ssl I have found newsgroups to be a poor measure of reliability for speed, especially VM's news groups. I haven't used them in a while but I can remember when they used to crawl along at 70k/sec. Can you post your power levels. Click on this
link and look at the 5th post down. Presumably you are using a shub only and not your own router?
