No help, no way that I can see apart from switching off the filters. I spent ages going through all the options.

Erm. there's an option in filters to "Never send it to spam". That's it. You can then whitelist via whatever criteria you want.
Or disable the spam filtering completely by matching "is:spam". That's not so obvious but it's well known.

I don't find it slow or clunky at all. It's faster than any desktop client I've ever tried (including thunderbird), especially with the amount of email I have.
I stand by my point, though - name me a single better web interface
