As much as we all hate it, I agree that its doubtful that the licence fee is going anywhere.

Indeed, the licence fee has (I believe I read) paid for the development of Teletext, High Definition, Digital Radio, and catch up TV (the CEO at the time, Ashley Highfield developed the Iplayer). Plus, can you imagine the BBC news website splattered in ads to help pay for it if the licence is abolished .....

I know that there are only a couple of countries in the world that still has a licence fee (New Zealand being one), but the BBC is apparantly one of the most admired broadcasters in the world - one that does not have to appease stockholders, and all because of the licence fee

Hate paying it the same as everyone, but then I also hate paying road tax !
