Having lived in Ceredigion, I most certainly do. Or, at least, did. The pubs you could and couldn't go in as an English person were well known to all.

Depends how far north you go. Around Flintshire, where I worked for 3 years, a lot of people commute in and out of Chester and don't give any thought to the border at all, except when they get cruddy treatment from the Welsh NHS while their colleagues over the border do rather better out of Cheshire hospitals.
