The days of selling expensive box upgrades are coming to an end in my opinion , both Sky and VM are fighting for their lives just to keep their current customers I'm not sure people are as prepared to pay for expensive STB's these days.
And in a way, Sky has already moved in this direction, Now Tv being the example. They can do this because they have strong tie in with other channels as well as content provider of their own making.

This is where in some ways I do fear for virgin as a TV provider in this field.
