That was "old" Top Gear, IIRC. Clarkson did his review to a soundtrack of "We were never being boring" by the Pet Shop Boys and accused GM of "industrial arrogance" for producing such a lacklustre vehicle. Vauxhall refused to talk to him for months afterwards.
Old Top Gear reviewed ordinary cars in order to help ordinary consumers make informed choices. New Top Gear cooks up crazy stunts to give ordinary consumers a vicarious thrill from cars they could never afford, and situations they never encounter.
