The software was, but not the hardware. If you were to take the lid off a Premiere, a VM Cisco TiVo and a VM Samsung TiVo, you'd find they are all very different inside.

Sensibly, when developing for VM, they didn't make it support three. They made it support any number. So 4, 6 or anything else then became possible without any extra software development.
