Not everyone has access to this at the moment. Would this also put internet prices up as everyone will be demanding more bandwidth (more channels)?

Sorry for the questions, but Its a good discussion and I like the way that VM would take it based on what you have said in your post.
Comcast's DVR in the USA currently records a show to the local HDD like most PVR's but also makes the show available in the cloud so recordings can be accessed on mobile devices , tablets , laptops etc.

If everything was solely recorded in the cloud you would indeed need a reliable broadband connection.
