Amazon Instant Video isn't just the Amazon Prime catalogue, but also all new releases to buy or rent. This means it ain't the same as Netflix as the new releases will compete with Virgin's own Virgin Movies On Demand service. And by "compete" I mean undercut: HD new releases (e.g. Gone Girl) on the Virgin Movies On Demand are £4.99 for 48 hours, on Amazon it's £4.49, or you can buy it to watch when you want for £9.99 (on any device with Amazon Instant Video). I can't see VM launching a competing service on its own platform, so maybe that's where the talks stalled.
