Right. Sky have it quite easy really compared to the likes of BT and Virgin where they have to maintain and upgrade their networks. Granted Sky pays a decent amount of cash to BT to use it's network for broadband and calls but it's a drop in the ocean were Sky having to pay for maintaining/upgrading it themselves.
Sky's only real issue is putting dishes on houses and maintaining equipment, but even then, they charge from inside the house or have customers paying insurance. No wonder they have so much free cash to make lavish spending spree's.
I do think that they have bitten off more than they can chew with the money spent on the football rights.
