Not quite. It's a bit confusing. Windows Defender became MSE. Then when MSE got integrated into the OS they renamed it back to Windows Defender.
All the warnings about not installing more than one antivirus program were based around severe incompatibilities that occurred in the pre-2011 era. Those concerns are no longer as relevant today. That said, while one argument against having multiple AVs still applies (slight performance hit) the strongest argument
for having MSE as well also applies - the vast majority of people forget or neglect to renew their standalone AV programs after the trial expires, thus leaving them with a false sense of security when they actually have practically no protection. This is why Microsoft integrated it into the OS and why it's generally a good idea to leave it on unless you are absolutely certain you will not forget to maintain your standalone AV properly.
