Like yourself I have had a cold/nose bunged up.
I decided to have a poke into nose to remove bogey or two, ended up with a 3 day nosebleed.
(Remember I'm on tablets to stop blood clotting, blood would not stop even with cotton wool stuffed up)
Note to myself - leave bogies alone in future. lol

That happened to my mum and we had to take her up to A&E, IIRC they sprayed something like cocaine up the nose.
