Of course it is. DC doesn't want the debates to happen at all if he can help it - he has nothing to gain.
If he can get the Greens in it's purely for political reasons - if they have a good showing it will hurt Labour and split their vote, thus reducing the impact of UKIP on his vote.
As it is he's been told that if he doesn't want to do the debates at least one of them will happen with an empty chair in his place. These debates increase public engagement and are an important part of the democratic process now.
