I am led to believe this an Internal Consumer Unit and is usually where connections for TV & Broadband are made coming from a box externally.

There are 2 reasons for my asking.

1. I intend to have some work done to strip the walls back down to the brick and re-plaster
2. I never intend to have any services with Virgin Media as I am very happy with my current provider.

I look forward to your replies and thank you for taking the time to read my post and answer.
Not sure if it's something they do, but IF they do it would cost. You could go to the external box, open it,normally held together with a screw, and disconnect the cable there. You will find a cable coming up from the border or grass, this will be the cable they pull to your property and then it is connected to the cable that is then feeding the different rooms. This would be the cable you could remove.
