Bogus Telephone Preference Service companies

This may/may not be a scam, but be warned and check with elderly parents/relatives. I listen to Radio 4 and they have said that some scams are very convincing.

My Mum & Dad told me that they signed up to a company called "Cold Call Elimination" they called him, and my dad gave him all his card details, including the 3 digits on the back.

Well I went mental and turned the air blue, I went to the web and typed "is cold call elimination legit" and TPS was listed, so I went to the TPS website and its listed there with this message.

Quote:
There are other companies that are not necessarily scams but they are not TPS. They usually claim to offer a similar or even an enhanced service to TPS.

They make exaggerated claims about the effectiveness of their service and may even suggest that TPS does not work.
So I found the details of his banks fraud line and he had the card cancelled, and a new card is being issued.
