Hey, at least they notice the wheelchair which was more than they did with your stick. When I was stuck in a wheelchair for a while I got really fed up with people only talking to whoever was with me. I 'accidentally' ran over quite a few toes, I guess it didn't change people's bad manners but it was very satisfying.
