I have a 4K monitor on my pc and it's great for gaming but for films etc it is wasted.

Yes 1080p footage will scale up as much as possible however, you can tell the difference almost straight away when you look at it.

TV is broadcasted iirc in 1080i at most so a 1080p screen is already being wasted unless you watch alot of Blu-Ray films.

I would personally hold out and wait, till next year when hopefully they will not only be far cheaper but also becoming with more features and accept 60hz refresh rates without having to mess around.
