at this stage, 1080p. there isn't a lot of 4k content out yet that's easily available. at least, not without also upgrading AV amps, media players and the such as well in order to actually play it let alone any Sky or VM boxes which can actually do 4k.

much like HD when it first came out, by the time there is a lot of noteworthy content, prices will have come WAY down and the technology, such as the panels used and so on, will be much better.

as Hom3r pointed out, the world cup in 2018 may be broadcast in 4k, bu that's still 3 years away. a lot will (have to) change in that time, including (if you want to watch it in 4k) your Sky / VM tv box! But right now, you'll be paying a lot for 4k. if you put the same amount into a 1080p screen, it will be much better in terms of the tech and options - not all panels are made the same. Any Which? TV review will prove that to you.

4k WILL be the next step, unlike 3d and curved screens. 3d just isn't really worth the money (plus the complete lack of content once broadcasters realised it actually isn't all that). As for curved screens - what a waste of money. that really is just a gimmick to push sales until 4K takes off and becomes mainstream. it's one of those items that produces a lot of post-purchase justification from those who invested, but really, they are just suffering from cognitive dissonance because they fell for the marketing!
