This argument that if the BBC took adverts it would take advertising revenue away from other commercial stations is `old hat` and just isn`t true. The beeb said this long before there was multi commercial channels but now they`re here I see ITV are still around and doing okay. So are the others. Why can`t the beeb be partly funded by adverts and as a subscription channel anyway? Like sky 1,Watch,Alibi etc.

If you look at other countries where the erosion of license fee has occurred and a former state broadcaster takes advertising all those things happen. It weakens the investment in programming to only have advertisers, reduces the content available and quality.
