I still had to talk to an operator but at least he spoke and understood English. Couple of reboots and we now have glorious HD channels.
Nothing there that couldn't have been done on-line through myvirgin account though.
I'm also happy that it has a number display so I can set a channel for remote viewing without putting the main TV on.
Now I just need to tie in the RF modulator to the DVD recorder output SCART (outputs composite video of cable feed when DVD is off) and set it to the same channel the old Samsung box was outputting (52) and the new installation is complete.
