Some info I have found by searching says that you can't. I have made the USB recovery media but of the 2 sticks I have used neither support being made bootable. I used to use Acronis 2013 version but that does not work properly on Win 8 and I was thinking of upgrading to the new 2015 version, so, if I did use 2015 after installation would that allow me to recovery my 8.1 system image after making an Acronis recovery disk. Thanks for any answers anyone can come up with.
One problem is using Acronis that you need Windows to be installed to run Acronis! I made a USB to create my system recovery disk. There are two methods of recovering from a System recovery is go to the Control panel in Windows. If Windows is not running System recover the system image you need to go into BIOS to start the Windows recovery. On my ACER to recover the system image you need to go into BIOS to start the Windows recovery. I hope that helps Ken
