I don't see it as cheeky, as I look at it in the same way as my online supetmarket offering a promotion that it was unable to deliver.
They had packs of salmon on offer if two were bought together, but were unable to supply them due to higher than anticipated demand. As a result they offered me two packs of another brand and charged me the same price of the offer, which I happily accepted. Instead of letting me down and risking annoyance because of their failures, they turned it round and I was delighted instead.
I also remember in the days of NTL when I called to complain that launching interactive services always crashed the box. I was told that I "couldn't complain because the service was free"!!! After explaining that the service was an integral part of the service that I was paying for, albeit not seperately charged for, she altered her attitude and dealt with the issue
