I meant while Norton was disabled. If Norton was blocking a network connection you would have been assigned an apipa address which starts with 169.254.x.x. When Norton is disabled you need to force the OS to refresh it's network settings and it will look for the new dhcp server and get a new address for the gateway etc.

I permanently disabled Norton and restarted the computer and still no luck. The wired connection works fine as I have been writing most of my messages on the wired connection on the laptop

I put the SH2 in modem only mode and connected my Belkin N1 Vision router and got connected on wifi with the laptop in less than a minute.
For the time being I will leave it like this.
