New driver installs do not update firmwares, most drivers for ATI and Nvidia cards are for a ranges of different cards where as firmware is for a specific piece of hardware, you will very rarely find firmware updates for any graphics cards although those with Linux systems are able to hack some firmwares to upgrade them
