I don't know. I find it a bit presumptive to assume that if/what had happen we would have won the title. We don't know what would have happened if things were different but you can't retrofit the squad with the benefit of hindsight. It's unlikely we'll have the same injuries again when Ramsey, Ozil and Wilshere all found themselves out in additional to Walcott. We could purchase more cover for central midfield and find out we're fine there but our defence is falling apart.
I think we need to look at the squad now and see where we need to improve it and central midfield does not leap out at me as a weak spot. Instead the full backs need to be better. We may need more cover in central defence. I think we need a world class defensive/holding midfielder to rotate with Flamini or to accompany him for tougher games.
We might need more pace on the wing as Walcott's injury, not Ramsey's, was the biggest blow as far as I am concerned. Ramsey was our best player but we did have cover there. Ozil was out as long and Cazorla is a pretty good player too. However Walcott's injury robbed the side of pace and teams felt fine playing a high line against us.
Then we need two strikers.
I want Fabregas back but I am just being realistic in that he doesn't solve any of the more pressing problems and if it weren't for the prospect of his possible departure we wouldn't be talking about central midfield at all. It's an emotional attachment to Fabregas that makes us want his return rather than any pressing need. Arsenal spent £42 million on Ozil. Would we play around £30 million for Fabregas in the same position? On top of our expected outlay for all the aforementioned positions.
