I think there's a couple of interesting points here:
- Sky also likes to announce new deals and services in the run-up to, and on the day of, its results. So a deal with VM for the remaining sports channels in HD could be announced next week.
- Good news in the results for subscribers but not shareholders. Sky's likely fall in profits confirms that the company has had to absorb some of the costs of increased sports rights, putting to bed the urban myth that it can simply put up prices of Sky Sports and the same number of people will pay more.
Not really a myth though, is it? Prices have been rising for years and people still pay for it. They will still increase prices, and people will still pay more, it's just that Sky can not pass the full cost onto customers.
