Oddly, if you haven't yet installed 8.1 then security updates for Win8 will carry on until 2016

However, I'd personally say it's worth the upgrade to 8.1 via Windows Store anyway - there is nothing in either update that makes Win 8 worse

Personally, I think one of the nicest tweaks 8.1 does is allow you to have your desktop background on the Start Screen - makes a huge difference in feeling more connected between it and the Desktop, and then the 8.1 update goes further down that route.
