They are, they have transmitters that usually keep signalling for around a month.

The Air France crash of Brazil however, must have been around 2 years or so before they found it.

They are duty bound to find it, I'm amazed at the lengths they go to find the cause of air crashes. I think the sea is not to deep there so I think they'll find it. Could take a while though.
