Maybe the size of the bid and a perception that it isn't what United need most that made them willing to do the deal. Maybe it leaves less money for a big signing where United are weak but if United are willing to go beyond £20 million for Luke Shaw then transfer funds are clearly not a problem for Moyes. Hell rumours are Rooney will get nearer £300,000 a week!

In one sense it is. But a buy most would like in their team.
This is the opposite of the summer, where they prevaricated and made bids for players they were unlikely to get (particularly at the amounts they offered).
They seem to be looking for more players now, which makes for an interesting window

I don't think you can ever call signing a proven, world class player as a panic buy. Maybe if it's the only signing we make it could be considered a little panicky otherwise I don't buy that idea.
