But there's a difference between 'live' channels and 'linear' channels.
I think that it is only a matter of time before there is a sea change in viewer habits and video on demand becomes the choice of viewing for the majority over TV channels.
I think that VM need to look carefully at their on demand content and enhance it substantially to make it attractive, and the news that they are going to be concentrating on this means of providing content this year is welcome.
I cannot see the majority of the population continuing to waste their time watching all the tripe that interrupts TV programmes and that is inserted in between them, and to have their evening's viewing determined by the programme controllers.
In the longer term, I am convinced that we will have fewer linear channels and eventually these may even be reduced to the extent that only genuinely 'live' programmes, such as sport and news, are broadcast in this way.
Incidentally, even live programmes can be put on demand so you can view them as they happen, in the same way as you can with stuff that is recording on your Tivo. So you don't really need 'live' TV channels at all.
