Question about homeplugs

Morning all!
I recently installed an Asus rt n66u router with the hopes of increasing a flakey connection to my laptop and PC in a room to the rear of our house. The PC seems to have a much quicker connection, but the Laptop (£800 worth of HP i7 at that) seems to have very little increase in download speed. I'm maxing at around 2.3mbps on our 60mb line, but only in that one room. Everywhere else I'm getting at least 4mbps to around just under 7mbps. The room in question is in a very awkward place, two thick walls a fusebox and a room full of a fridge, freezer, washer and drier. I'm guessing they aren't helping?
Anyway, I was wondering if a couple of homeplugs to feed that one location will help boost the download speed to my laptop, its the one quiet room in the house..... When the washing machine isn't on haha.
