From memory it was informative and I included a lot of what I saw in the project I handed in. Up until then I had no real idea of anything about those times and cultures other than what I'd read in books.
Schoolkids go on trips like these all the time. I fail to see the problem other than the suggestion that a 'racial' note would be placed on the files.

Exactly. seeing artefacts could only be about time, place and culture and nothing to with any religion. Even looking at religious artefacts wouldn't tell you anything about the religion itself. This was meant to be a trip in connection with the "National Religious Education Curriculum".
