Thanks for your help. Can I just clarify a bit:

I can't really run my modem from this room so it looks like I need the second option. Just to be clear, is the iplate different to the NTE5a like this?

That's what I assumed I needed as the connection speed is fine when connected to the test socket(?) Also, as you can see from the photo, I currently have six wires connected but everything I look at only has 3 or 4 connectors. Any thoughts on that? I've read what you said of course, can you tell me which of the 6 wires are needed?!
