I believe swapping between "all" the other providers is the only way to go these days. Preferences in equpment like Tivo are just losing there appeal as prices increase at a greater rate than income. I use the same philosophy for TV phone and BB as I use for gas or electricity supplies.
Hence now swappped VIP 50 for "equivalent" Sky package, kept 120BB and saving £11/month. In 12 months time the circle of life will start again.
