It seems to me having made such a catastrophic and irreversible 'mistake', which they denied for a decade or more, we really shouldn't believe what they say now and certainly not the usual old promises along the lines of "
yes we're terribly sorry we made mistakes but we've learned our lessons and promise to make it all better if you vote us back into office, blah, blah, blah..."
