If you don't like programmes like Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, Blue Bloods, Game of Thrones (I could go on...) then clearly the channel is not for you.
Good luck with the rubbish that you can find on other channels (Dawn Porter, Extreme Wife; When Vacations Attack; Body Invaders (I could go on...), I'm glad you are happy.
One thing I will say, though. Many I am sure look at the Sky Atlantic schedule for one or two days and find nothing they want to watch. I am the same. However, with multi-channel TV, you have to go through ALL the schedules and pick out what you want. I would definitely not want to watch Sky 1 all evening, but I cannot ignore the occasional good drama series that appear on there.
Sky Atlantic is not the be all and end all. However, they do screen some programmes worth seeing.

Well, it is SD! Maybe with the extra money VM brings in, they can afford to launch an HD channel.

So why read the Cable Forum Coming Soon thread? You are old enough to work out the fact from the fiction.
