I get the impression they are okay in terms of their Goldenboy and Sauerland deals. They probably have an affordable fee set per show with both promoters. The fact they leave things to the last minute in terms of shows from Top Rank, and elsewhere in the world, makes me think they have an incredibly tight budget. There also seems to be a hesitation to get the HD channel up and running.
I'm waiting to see the channel bear fruit from the Bill Ives / Rainham Steel investment. Whilst Boxnation have deals to show Jamie McDonnell, Carl Frampton and Amir Khan Frank Warrens stable of established exciting fighters has been stripped right back. No disrespect meant to these guys but Dereck Chisora, Nathan Cleverly, Enzo Maccarinelli, Paul Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, Liam Smith and Frankie Gavin don't get me super excited.
Matchroom are set to announce further talent acquisition next week. Stephen Smith and David Price are both rumored.
Boxnation and Frank Warren really need to up their game. They simply aren't competing in terms of UK shows and general quality of production. Their deal with Goldenboy only has about 6 months to run. Imagine if SKY or BT swoop in and agree a new deal with Goldenboy ahead of Boxnation? I think that would be curtains for the channel.
