Never really had a problem with this personally. I did however lose all TV service via Virgin Media TiVo a couple of times, once for 2 days, whilst their network was down. Scottish Gas dug up one of Virgins cables in error
The lesson is, regardless of TV provider, it's good to have Freeview built in to your TV just incase
