CAT 5e cable is not always what it seems.
There could be any number of reasons why twisted pair doesn't perform as it should, even if you bend the stuff at an odd angle perhaps because a device is in a different place there could be an issue with the termination or one of the pair members breaking down. It always helps to rule out the obvious first.
