I don't particularly want it either. Better the ESPN money were put into improving the XL package in other ways.

However those who do, should at least be given the choice.

We obviously don't know what the sticking points in the talks are, but if Virgin are holding out for including in the XL package for a fixed price, then I don't think this is in customers' interests if it ends up denying it altogether.

It would surely be quite straightforward for VM to market BT Sport in effectively the same way as Sky Sports, as a stand alone package and taking a small handling fee for collecting subs and carrying the transmission. VM have admitted they make little or nothing from carrying Sky Sports, they do so as a service to customers and because it boosts the overall attractiveness of the service.
