I see also that being unemployed gives you a distinct "advantage" to pay a lot of money for a sports packages.

For a scenario like this, I would personally (as I am not huge on silly over the top camera views, and think this distracts from the viewing experience especially in smaller stadiums) use a 16 input Panasonic HD-SDI Vision Mixer for my live feeds and some variety of vertical interleave switching router. Any will do. I would tinker with my setup and settings to have all the cameras in the football stadium routed to my switcher, and then after the game I would use the router to change all my in-studio cameras over to the switcher instead. This provides an excellent quality broadcast setup because if you make sure the 1 source that is actually ON the screen doesn't get switched nobody will see any sort of on screen buffering/jumping etc, except for the person who is doing the switching who will see a slight 1sec buffering/jump in the broadcast.
i have heard the Vertical Interleave Switching routers it do not even have any delay. Or minimal, much less than 1sec. And will cut between sources almost entirely cleanly. That is why I have chosen that for our scenario, as you asked for "best" (subjective, and all this can be affected by the individual talent of the mixer and the producer, and how they have set up their equipemnt).
In my mixing setup I would ensure i had enabled my 4 channel hardware controller, which would act as a direct connection to the playout.
Obviously being live tv, a manual approach with the playout is required because the automated playout AI can not take into account overlaps of half time, delays etc. So a manual handling is required instead of timecodes, which are usually fine for non-live television.
As far as me being unemployed, i come from a family with access to lots of money. So while i wouldn't say I am rich personally, (i only have a few K in my savings which is nowhere near enough for somebody who loves money, live football, and nights out as much as me, i am fine when it comes to living in my families mansion/food/shower everyday. I pay money in to live here to cover my minimal costs of shower, gas, tv license. So I am ok to have all the latest sports channels and tech. it's not just me who watches the football either, although it is me who pays. it's a necessary essential for me and my life. so more than worth the money. And obviously because i have plenty of free time to play games (can't WAIT for the PS4, and have already paid for mine), i obviously need lots of TV to watch as I'm at home alot when I am not out with mates or enjoying the nice weather, talking to a few birds in clubs. Despite that I expect to be in work again before the end of the year, I would be in work now if i hadn't of been fired. And am considering suing them after september once i have talked it over with my solicitor.
