Yes it does make you wonder why nothing was done earlier to protect this young lad. It's quite bizarre that abuse like this so often isn't recognised and dealt with promptly. I hope they throw the key away on these two but no doubt they'll be out and about in a few years.
This subject is especially close to home since Mrs Osem's half brother was routinely beaten and eventually died from brain injuries sustained in yet another assault by her mother and stepfather many years ago. Sadly they were never even arrested let alone prosecuted by the authorities in her country of origin.
