I'm not sure if this will work but it might!

You could purchase another common-or-garden remote control for use in the kitchen. This will transmit remote codes that the TV-Link will understand. Then at the STB end you'll need a device called a Red-Eye to convert these to the special protocols used by these cable boxes.
