No I understand that he can only be sentenced within what was around when the offences were carried out. What I think should happen though is he should get the maximum sentence from when the offence was done. So say if in 1970's child sex offenders carried a maximum of 2 years per offence then I would sentence him to 2 years for those offences.

What made me laugh though was a bloke who sprayed graffiti on trains causing £200,000 of damage got 3 and a half years in jail! What a joke that is. Coalition need to start some sort of review into sentencing guidelines to make sure this type of stupidity doesn't happen again.
