3D tv is very much a personal preference. Some just don't like it at all, others love it while some occasionally enjoy it. So gimmicky or not, if one gains enjoyment from it then it doesn't matter.

Personally I watch about one 3D movie every few months as I only find the 3D of benefit if it has been done well, which only a handful of films do this. Simply adding depth is not enough to make me want to bother wearing the glasses although I do for the Sky 3D documentaries.

While many see HD as much better, there are probably just as many who think it is gimmicky and they don't need it. Hard to imagine that to be true when you are a geek or appreciate technology as we do.
